The story begins.... Mrs. Daly, my 3rd grade teacher was becoming extremely exasperated with me. For you see, she had given me a book to read called "Black Beauty". When it came time to give the book up, I wouldn't let it go. Right then at that very moment, the love affair began. Oh, I got in trouble but the punishment was worth it. I had the book and no one would take it away from me, not ever.
Many years have gone by when that little girl stood her ground and would not give up the dream- the dream of having a black horse. I had seen and done many things in my life when I finally decided to make that dream come true. I called my dearest friend, Kim, in Carson City, NV. I exclaimed to her, "I have done it... I have my dream... I purchased my black horse". She didn't say anything to be but, "You should have your dream, you have had that one since you were a little girl." I knew she would understand since I have known Kim since we were little. My search for the perfect horse took me to Michigan. I had Kim's brother, Butch, go to see 3 horses for me. After he went to see them, we decided to forgo them, and I would begin my search on the west coast.
While I was searching the internet, I came across Melissa Fischbach's site that has horses from all over the United States and Holland. My original search was for a gelding, but when I came across the mares she had listed, I almost died. She had some horses in Arizona, right here, in the desert. I called her and she introduced me to the owner, Gina. Gina invited me out to her place to see them that very afternoon! I squealed like I was in 3rd grade again! OH MY GOD! They are in Litchfield Park which is only 20 minutes from my house! I got in the car and went right out there. When I arrived, I was greeted by her resident dogs (no problem, I have dogs myself) and what did I find but 4 of the most magnificent creatures on this earth with the kindest and most intelligent eyes. My heart was lost. I purchased her mare, Diana C, without a moments hesitation in November. She is registered and her breeding is impeccable. Through the miracle of the internet, I was able to touch base with her original owner when Diana C was in the Renaissance fairs. I want to thank Elainna for contributing some of the pictures of Diana C used on this site.
Just this last month, Carole Miller and I went back and purchased the colt, Zoolander, out of Diana C. Zoolander is by the Grand Prix champion, Goffert 369 (now deceased). To view Goffert 369, visit Iron Spring Farm. He got a standing ovation to "Simply the Best" and in the video, you can see why... he was the best. With the breeding pedigree that our baby boy Zoolander has, we have high hopes for him. In his training, he is smart, observant and he thinks about something before he acts. He still is a "Lil Rascal", and "Boys will be Boys". I am asked by several of my friends about breeding, and it is something I am interested in. But to tell the truth, I couldn't give the babies up... not in a million years. It is a far off dream that I have, maybe one day when I win the lottery (fat chance!).
I am also involved in raising English Springers. I have been raising spaniels for almost 30 years. I do not breed them, but am involved with English Springer Rescue America.
I used to be the coordinator for the AZ/NV region from 2004-2006. It is hard work and the rewards are many, but there are so many dogs. When I come home, I am greeted by my wild bunch: Rev (Remington's Revolution Beach), Terri (Windsor's Solitaire), and my rescue dog, Brandy Rose. Oh, and little Inky, my Shih- Tzu. If you can foster for us in Arizona or Nevada, either contact me or the AZ coordinator thru ESRA.
Well, now you know about me, I am proud of the fact that I now have a website to show the world my endeavors. I would like to thank my friends (who are all pictured in the slideshow below) up in Oregon, Sunni, Carole, Sue and Elainna; in Washington, Jan and Sandi; in Carson City, Nevada, Kim and Harry, their boys Jevan and Caedron ; and also to Kim's brother, Butch.
I want to say to my step- mom, Marylou, thank you for your support and love and for giving me the nick-name "Rosebud", for it now will be revered forever in the name "Black Rosebud Friesians". Welcome everyone! Come see my dreams come true... FINALLY! Best,
